The Komet and Constellation sound samples |
| The following sound samples were played by Alex Garcia. Alex is a studio musician and can be contacted at alexgrt@excite.com. The guitars were played straight into the Komet head with no distortion or "boost" effects used. All samples were recorded using a vintage Marshall 4x12 cabinet loaded with Celestion Pre-Rola G12H30s with 014 cones. |
| Sample #1 - | Les Paul Standard with PAF humbuckers. Touch Response switch in the "Fast" mode. Volume on 12:00, High Cut on 11:30. |
| Sample #2 - | Reissue '57 Stratocaster with Lindy Fralin pickups. Touch Response switch in the "Fast" mode. Volume on 1:00, High Cut on 12:00. |
| Sample #3 - | Reissue '57 Stratocaster with Lindy Fralin pickups. Touch Response switch in the "Gradual" mode. Volume on 12:00, High Cut on 11:00. |
| Sample #4 - | Les Paul Junior with stock P-90 pickup. The rhythm track was done with the following settings: Touch Response switch in the "Fast" mode. Volume on 11:30, Treble on 2:00, Midrange on 1:00, Bass 3:00, Presence 1:30, High Cut 1:00. The overdubbed lead track uses the same settings with the exception of the volume being on 1:00. |

Reissue '57 Stratocaster with Lindy Fralin pickups. Touch Response switch in the "Gradual" mode. Volume on 11:00, Treble on 2:00, Midrange on 11:00, Bass on 2:00, Presence on 1:30, High Cut 10:30. |
| Sample #6 - | Gibson Classic 60 Les Paul with stock pickups (wired out of phase). Touch Response switch in the Fast mode. Volume on 10:30, Treble on 11:30, Midrange on 1:30, Bass on 1:00, Presence on 1:30, High Cut on 12:00. The rhythm track is a Tyler S-Style guitar through the same amp settings, but with the Touch Response switch in the Gradual mode. This sound sample was recorded through a 1X12 cabinet loaded with an Altec speaker. |
| Sample #7 - | Tyler
S-Style guitar (humbucker/single coil/single coil pickups). Touch Response
switch in the Fast mode. Volume wide open, Treble on 12:30,
Midrange on 11:30, Bass on 1:00, Presence on 1:00, Hi Cut on 12:00. The rhythm track is the same guitar through the same amp settings, except Volume on 4:00. |
| Sample #8 - | This is the Komet Airbrake. Alex repeats the same lick while going through the 5 fixed attenuation steps, and finally engaging the variable attenuation to bring the amp all the way down to bedroom level. |
| This is another take of sample #4, only this time its not a Komet, but a Trainwreck Express. We get asked to compare the Komet to the Express a lot, probably because the Express is also an EL34 amp designed (and built) by Ken Fischer. The Komet and the Express are quite different in terms of power (60 Watts vs. 34 Watts), headroom and bottom end. The Komet is louder, bigger sounding, and more versatile. The Express was designed and built to be the ultimate Rock Lead amp. Many believe it to be the most harmonically complex amp ever, and used Expresses routinely sell for $25,000.00+. |
